Wiki: How to make Cortana search Google in Windows 10 & How change Browser in Windows 10

Off-Topic Advice about how to enable Google search results via Cortana in Windows 10 and change browsers.

How change Browser in Windows 10

You can make Mozilla Firefox, Google (GOOGL, Tech30) Chrome, Apple (AAPL, Tech30) Safari or another app your default browser in Windows 10, but it's not as easy or intuitive to do that as it was in previous versions of Windows.

1) Click the "Use this as my default browser" button. That will launch the Settings app, opened to the "Choose default apps" tab.

2) Click on the Microsoft Edge logo. Picking a browser won't immediately be visible: You'll have to scroll down to where it says "Web browser," and click on Edge -- something Mozilla notes "may not be intuitive."

3) Click on the browser of your choice. You'll be prompted to choose an app (Mozilla would appreciate it if you chose Firefox, but Microsoft will show you all of the browsers installed on your PC). Close the window to save your changes.

How to make Cortana search Google in Windows 10

The first thing you need to do is download Google Chrome and set it as your default browser.

Then you need to install an extension for Chrome that redirects your Bing searches to another search engine instead, like Bing2Google (for Google) or Chrometana (for Google, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo).

Once installed, this extension will redirect any Bing search in your browser to a search for those same terms in the search engine of your choice.

So if you've set the extension to redirect searches to Google, for example, even if you go to and type in a query, it will give you the answer in Google.

Once you've done that, you're ready to go. Type a query into the Cortana search box on the desktop and watch your answer from Google pop up in Chrome.

Criticism of Windows 10 was directed towards a belief that the operating system was more limiting in how users could control its operation.

Many of the new features will be lost on those who don't care about touch. Automatic, forced updates could spell trouble later on. Cortana's features are better suited for smartphones.

In case you upgraded to Windows 10, Microsoft may use your computer and your Internet connection by default, to send them to others update. This feature is called Windows Update Delivery Optimization, or WUDO.

This feature of Windows 10, is activated automatically when installing the operating system, and if you want to give it up, you must manually disable it.
